THE REUNION PROJECT TO HOST DENVER TOWN HALL ON AGING WITH HIV AND LONG-TERM SURVIVAL
Free Two-Day Summit on August 23-24 to Cover Employment, Benefits, HIV and Aging Research, and Quality of Life Improvements
Denver, CO, Aug. 1—The Reunion Project (TRP), an alliance of HIV long-term
survivors, is excited to announce a free, two-day summit in Denver dedicated to
individuals living and aging with HIV and their caregivers. The event will take place on
August 23–24 at St. Cajetan’s Auraria Campus, 101 Lawrence Way, Denver, CO.
The theme of the town hall is “Thriving Together: Celebrating Resilience and Embracing
the Future.” The program, developed by local community advocates and providers,
includes a keynote address by Dr. Kristine Erlandson, Professor of Medicine-Infectious
Disease at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Erlandson’s research
focuses on aging complications, understanding successful aging mechanisms, and
implementing interventions for successful aging among people living with HIV.
Currently, more than 50% of people with HIV in the U.S. are over the age of 50, with
projections indicating this will rise to 70% by 2030. As we approach National HIV and
Aging Awareness Day (#NHAAD) on September 18, addressing the unique needs of
people living and aging with HIV and long-term survivors remains crucial.
“We came together in the early days of the HIV epidemic, to love and support each
other, often when no one else would do so. Today, we come together to celebrate those
of us surviving, thriving and aging with HIV with gratitude to our community that made it
possible,” said Barb Cardell, The Reunion Project Denver Host Committee Co-Chair
and Program Director for PWN USA, a national advocacy organization led by and for
women living with HIV.
The summit will run from 9 AM to 5 PM MT on both days, featuring sessions and
community discussions on health, wellness, and employment concerns for individuals
living and aging with HIV in the Denver area and throughout Colorado.
The event is free, with breakfast and lunch provided for those who pre-register.
